Weeks 1-5 Most Interesting Miami Dolphins Team Statistics

(Wallpaper Sam)

After the Miami Dolphins loss to the defending Super Bowl champion Baltimore Ravens, the Dolphins are heading into their bye week.

The Dolphins have played five regular season games. There are some positive and some negative statistics for the 3-2 Miami Dolphins. Lets Phish through them.

Positives
Dolphins rank 7th in red zone TD scores per game and rank 2nd in red zone touchdown scoring percentage.

Dolphins are 13th in the NFL in completions percentage.

Negatives
Dolphins are rank 31st in the NFL in first quarter time of possession. 17th in 2Q & 3Q. Drop down to 28th in 4Q

Dolphins are 28th in yards per game, 30th in plays per game.

Dolphins are 29th in first downs per game.

Dolphins are 29th rushing attempts per game, 28th in yards per game

Dolphins offense averaging league worst 4.8 sacks per game. 11.65% QB sack percentage.

Intriguing from around the NFL
Dolphins have a winning record but negative (-.06) team scoring margin.

All NFL teams are 100% on extra point conversion percentage except Chicago Bears and Cincinnati Bengals.

The Denver Broncos have 4.2 special teams points per game. 24 NFL teams have yet to score a point on special teams.

Dolphins pass on 68.44% of their plays, fourth highest in the NFL.

Dolphins defense in third quarter is 28th in giving up points. But in fourth quarter Dolphins defense ranks 4th.

Thoughts and Analysis
After two losses, its not a good feeling in Miami right now. The offensive line is struggling mightily and only a hand few of the quarterbacks in the league right now would be able have success in the NFL with a team that is giving up almost five sacks per game. There is not a single person to blame on the sack problems. It is a team effort, or lack there of. Offensive line, running backs, and the QB are all to blame for the sacks.

If you would have told me that the Dolphins would be heading into their bye week at 3-2 I would not have believed you. Beating Matt Ryan, Andrew Luck and Brandon Weeden is a great start to the Miami Dolphins season that is masked by the huge amount of sacks Ryan Tannehill has taken.

  3. I'd like to add a very key stat to the positive side. Caleb Sturgis is 90.9% (10 out of 11). Even though his only miss this season came at a time the Dolphins needed it, he kept them in the game with three earlier field goals (48, 37 & 25).

  4. I forgot to add one key defensive stat. Punter Brandon Fields is averaging 50.6 yards.
